Europa Science

Project in brief:

Mentoring a new graduate web developer and working with him on a new Drupal-based subscription management system.

DC Systems were then asked to revamp Europa’s family of magazine websites, migrating their functionality and content to Drupal. The first of these sites, Fibre Systems, was launched on schedule, giving Europa Science a new advertising revenue stream. Other Europa sites are now being migrated to Drupal.

In previous years, we looked after Europa’s legacy systems: science & technology magazine websites and their CMS, using PHP 4 and 5, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Ajax and MySQL, on CentOS Linux and Windows 7. This included fixing many priority bugs, writing a Web 2.0 application to create email newsletters, and providing day-to-day IT support for colleagues.

Client comments:

“David fixed many of our high-priority bugs in a very short time. David’s enhancements to our advert booking system directly improved our ability to generate more revenue, and his improvements to our advert clickthrough system gave us more accurate numbers for our audit. Generally, David provided us with any IT support we asked for, including: PHP, JavaScript and CSS bug fixes; MySQL schema documentation; setting up bulk emailing from our live Linux servers; migrating our sites to run on Windows 7 PCs; and even setting up Samba shares for a secure network drive!”
